Sereda Takes Top Honors at Delta State

Each year, Delta State University takes time to recognize its 350-plus student-athletes for their accomplishments on and off the field at the annual Athletic Awards Banquet held at Walter Sillers Coliseum. director of athletics Jeremy McClain, his staff and the coaches of DSU’s 13 intercollegiate sports recognized the top student-athletes from each sport and several community leaders for their involvement and support of Statesmen and Lady Statesmen Athletics. One of this year’s recipients was Roman Sereda (Swimming & Diving). Always diligent in his studies, Sereda is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Kappa Omicron Nu National Honor Society, and the 2009 Athletic Director’s Hall of Fame Award, given to the highest GPA for a graduating senior. In 2008-09, he received the Mississippi Association of Colleges David Halbrook Award, and he is also graduating in May with a degree Exercise Science (3.98 GPA). Sereda is a four-year letter-winner for coach Brian Hein and the Statesmen Swimming & Diving program. One of the most decorated athletes in school history, Sereda is a four-time NCAA All-American and four-time CSCAA Academic All-American. During his career, the St. Petersburg, Russia native was named to the All-New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Team four times, claimed three NSISC individual championships in 2008 and 2009, served as team captain in 2007 and 2008, and holds six Delta State school records.
