Habitat for Humanity International elects Gladys Gary Vaughn to serve as secretary of its board of directors

Gladys Gary Vaughn, Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, has been elected to serve as secretary of Habitat for Humanity International’s board of directors. Vaughn was chosen to be an officer of the 25-member board that oversees the organization’s mission of building, rehabilitating and repairing simple, decent housing in partnership with people in need throughout the world.

“My election to this position on Habitat’s board is an opportunity to help families in need of decent housing,” said Vaughn. “I am deeply honored to serve in this capacity and thankful that Habitat has afforded me an opportunity to become a partner in providing access to affordable housing to people in need worldwide.”

Vaughn holds a doctorate in home economics education and administration from the University of Maryland at College Park. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority and is the immediate past national president of The Links Incorporated, two of the oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. Vaughn is a past chair of the Kappa Omicron Nu Board of Directors.

Members of the HFHI board receive no compensation for their voluntary service. Board terms are two years and each member may serve up to four terms.
